Ceritas Hellenthal Vineyard 'Old Shop Block' Pinot Noir 2021 is a standout Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir that shows why this bottling has become a favorite among Ceritas fans. Sourced from one of the region’s older Pinot Noir sites, it combines distinctive sandstone-and-iron soils with a thoughtful, hands-off winemaking approach that gives the wine real character and energy.

In the glass, it shows the dark, vivid color you’d expect from a Pinot Noir with this level of concentration. The nose is expressive and layered, opening with dark cherries, blood orange, wild strawberries, tar, spice, and a subtle cola note that adds intrigue. The palate mirrors the aromatics with dark cherry and wild strawberry at the core, followed by cranberry, dried rose petals, thyme, rosemary, and a beautifully understated saline minerality. It feels vivid, savory, and alive rather than heavy, with enough structure to reward a few years in the cellar, though it is already highly enjoyable now.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from the Hellenthal Vineyard’s Old Shop Block, one of the older Pinot Noir plantings along the Sonoma Coast, where sandstone- and iron-rich soils help shape the wine’s distinctive mineral edge and savory depth. Winemaker John Raytek chose to retain around 70% whole clusters during pressing and fermentation, a technique that adds spice, texture, and aromatic complexity while preserving freshness and lift.

This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roast duck, mushroom risotto, herb-crusted salmon, game birds, or simply grilled salmon with earthy sides. Serve it slightly cool, around 15-16°C, and consider a short decant if opening young; otherwise, a brief rest in the glass will allow the aromatics to open naturally.
