Chanin Zotovich Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 is a polished and expressive Pinot Noir from one of Santa Barbara County’s most respected sites in the Santa Rita Hills. It stands out for its balance of richness and finesse, shaped by meticulous hand harvesting, careful sorting, and thoughtful oak aging. Gavin Chanin has worked with fruit from Zotovich Vineyard since 2012, and this bottling reflects the consistent quality and site-driven character that have made the vineyard so highly regarded.

In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows the kind of vivid, elegant colour often associated with cool-climate California Pinot, though the emphasis here is clearly on purity rather than weight. The nose is intense and layered, with dark cherry, dried cranberry, salted pork, smoke, roses, and violets, creating a beautifully savory and floral profile. The palate is silky and refined, with notes of plum, dark cherry, raspberry, mint, cinnamon, and subtle licorice. It has a rounded, supple texture, but the structure remains precise and balanced, giving the wine both immediate appeal and the capacity to age gracefully for around 7 to 8 years.

Zotovich Vineyard is located in Santa Rita Hills, a cool and highly regarded part of Santa Barbara County known for producing Pinot Noir with freshness, tension, and aromatic complexity. The grapes were harvested and sorted by hand, with most clusters destemmed before pressing. The wine then matured for 17 months in French oak barrels, including 15% new oak, helping to add nuance and texture without overwhelming the vineyard’s natural character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roast duck, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, herb-roasted chicken, or pork tenderloin with a light cherry or cranberry glaze. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 15–17°C, and consider a short decant of 20–30 minutes if you want the aromatics to open up further.

Chanin is the Santa Barbara-based project of winemaker Gavin Chanin, who has built a strong reputation for producing site-focused, elegant wines from some of California’s most distinctive vineyard sites. His work has helped define a more restrained and terroir-driven style of Central Coast Pinot Noir, and his long relationship with Zotovich Vineyard since 2012 speaks to both consistency and trust in the site’s quality.
