Château Cantenac Brown 2020 is a beautifully classic Margaux that shows just how much this estate has evolved in recent years. With a strong Cabernet-led blend and the pedigree of a great Bordeaux vintage, it offers the finesse, depth and aromatic complexity that have long made this château one to watch.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, this vintage is likely to show a deep ruby color with youthful purple reflections. The nose should unfold with layers of blackcurrant, cassis, ripe plum and dark cherry, backed by cedar, pencil shavings, violets and a subtle earthy spice typical of Margaux.
On the palate, expect a refined structure with polished tannins, fresh acidity and a core of concentrated dark fruit. Cabernet Sauvignon brings freshness and definition, Merlot adds mid-palate richness, and Cabernet Franc lends aromatic lift. This is a wine built for cellaring and should continue to gain nuance and elegance over the next 10 to 20 years.
Viininvalmistus
Château Cantenac Brown is planted on 48 hectares in Margaux, where the gravelly Bordeaux terroir provides excellent drainage and helps deliver ripe, structured fruit. The vineyards are farmed sustainably with plant-based fertilizers, and the vines average around 35 years of age, contributing both concentration and balance. The estate’s vineyards are planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, reflecting a classic Left Bank profile. Under the direction of winemaker José Sanfins since 2006, the estate has focused on precision in the vineyard and careful vinification to preserve fruit purity, freshness and the château’s signature elegance.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds and mushroom-based dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C to allow the aromatic detail and structure to come through. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, especially in its youth, to help the wine open up and show its full complexity.

Château Cantenac Brown has a distinctive history dating back to the early 1900s, when it was established by the Scottish painter John Lewis Brown, who built the château in a Tudor style unlike anything else in the Médoc. Over the years it has changed hands several times, including ownership by Rémy Martin and Axa, before being acquired by the Halabi family in 2006. Since then, significant investment and a renewed focus on quality under José Sanfins have lifted the estate’s reputation, making it one of the most exciting names in Margaux today.
