Château Gruaud Larose 2015

Château Gruaud Larose 2015 is a classic Saint-Julien Grand Cru Classé with the depth, structure, and refinement that have made this estate one of Bordeaux’s most respected names. Sourced from south-facing vineyards on the Saint-Julien plateau and aged in French oak, it combines concentrated dark fruit with polished spice, remarkable freshness, and serious cellaring potential. The estate’s long history dates back to 1725, and the 2015 vintage reflects both that heritage and its reputation for wines built to age beautifully.

Makuprofiili
Medium garnet-purple in the glass, this wine opens with vibrant aromas of red cherries, ripe raspberries, and fresh blackcurrants, layered with cinnamon, rose petals, fallen leaves, and dried Provençal herbs. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied with tightly woven red and black fruit, a firm, grainy structure, and bright energy that gives the wine lift and precision. The finish is long, perfumed, and subtly spiced, with the kind of balance that suggests considerable evolution ahead. While already impressive, this is a wine that should continue to blossom over the next 4 to 6 years and can be enjoyed well beyond that with proper cellaring.

Viininvalmistus
The 2015 Château Gruaud Larose is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc, drawn from old vines averaging more than 46 years of age, with some over 80 years old. The estate’s vineyards sit on the southern part of the Saint-Julien plateau, where excellent exposure and Bordeaux’s gravel-rich terroir help produce wines of depth, freshness, and structure. After harvest, the wine was matured for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, 80% new and 20% one to two years old, adding nuance, polish, and aging capacity to the final blend.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, beef Wellington, grilled entrecôte, duck breast, or game dishes with earthy sauces, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1 to 2 hours if drinking young to allow the bouquet and structure to open fully.

Château Gruaud Larose is one of Saint-Julien’s historic estates and was classified as a Deuxième Cru Classé in 1855. Founded in 1725, the château has passed through four major family lineages over the centuries, giving it a deep sense of continuity and identity that still shapes the estate today. Since 1997, it has been owned by Jacques Merlaut and the Taillan group, a respected Bordeaux wine family with holdings across several notable châteaux. The estate is also known for its strong reputation among collectors, its impressive aging potential, and its recent move toward organic and biodynamic farming practices.
