Château Léoville Las Cases 1995 is a superbly structured Saint-Julien from one of Bordeaux’s most revered estates, often regarded as the benchmark among the classified growths of the Médoc. Drawn from vineyards bordering Pauillac and Château Latour, it combines power, precision, and extraordinary longevity in a style that has made the château famous for producing wines of near First Growth stature.

In the glass, the wine shows a medium garnet core with the first signs of brick at the rim, hinting at its maturity while still retaining admirable depth. The bouquet opens gradually, revealing baked plums, dried mulberries, and boysenberry preserves, layered with black truffle, dusty earth, Chinese five spice, and subtle notes of cigar box, beef drippings, and cast-iron pan. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with generous fruit, plush tannins, and a seamless thread of freshness that keeps everything in balance. Earthy, herbal, and mineral tones linger through the finish, giving the wine both complexity and gravitas. While already highly expressive, this is the kind of Bordeaux that can continue to evolve beautifully over many years.

The estate’s prized l’Enclos parcels, planted largely with mature vines, provide the backbone for its most celebrated wines. The 1995 vintage is known from the producer’s blend to include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, with carefully managed harvesting and traditional Bordeaux vinification aimed at preserving concentration, freshness, and aging potential.
