In the glass, the 2016 vintage is deeply coloured and concentrated, hinting at the intensity within. The nose opens with layers of blackcurrant, violet, dark chocolate, menthol, cigar box, smoke, and earthy, savoury nuances, all lifted by a refined floral character. The palate is vivid and tightly composed, with black berries and dark floral notes unfolding over a frame of firm, ripe, silk-textured tannins. Fresh acidity gives the wine energy and balance, while the finish is long, precise, and complex. While already impressive now, this is a wine with serious ageing potential and should continue to develop beautifully over decades.

Château Léoville Poyferré comes from Saint-Julien in Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where gravelly soils and an ideal maritime climate help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve depth, freshness, and structure. The estate’s vineyards are carefully harvested, with each parcel typically picked at optimal ripeness to preserve purity and balance. The wine is then vinified with precision and aged in oak barrels to build complexity, polish the tannins, and enhance the wine’s naturally expressive character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds, or rich mushroom dishes, as well as hard, mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C for the best expression, and consider decanting for one to two hours if drinking young to allow the aromas and tannins to open fully.
