Château Pichon-Longueville au Baron de Pichon-Longueville 2009 is a classic Pauillac with the depth and authority that have made Pichon Baron one of Bordeaux’s most admired "super seconds." Made from a carefully selected blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, this is a wine of precision, power, and remarkable finesse. The 2009 vintage stands out as one of the château’s great modern successes, combining richness with the structure expected from a serious Left Bank Bordeaux.

In the glass, it shows an opaque blue-purple color that signals both concentration and youthful energy. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of blackberries, blueberries, spring flowers, graphite, smoky charcoal, incense, coffee, and a touch of dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, intense, and impeccably structured, with lavish fruit wrapped around polished tannins and a long, powerful finish. It has an opulent yet refined style, offering both immediate appeal and the kind of backbone that allows for long aging. The 2009 vintage is built for the cellar and can continue to evolve gracefully for decades.

Viininvalmistus
Pichon Baron’s vineyards sit on the gravelly soils of Pauillac, where excellent drainage and the moderating influence of the Gironde help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve full ripeness and precision. Vineyard work is carried out with great attention to detail and adapted to each growing season, with all grapes hand-harvested and carefully sorted by plot, variety, and vine age. In the cellar, fermentation and maceration are managed to extract color, tannin, and aromatic complexity, followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in barrel. More than 40 lots are tasted and evaluated for the final blend, ensuring a wine that reflects both the vintage and the estate’s signature style.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best served with richly flavored dishes such as roast beef, lamb, duck breast, beef Wellington, or game with a dark sauce. It also pairs beautifully with hard cheeses and truffle-driven dishes. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decant for at least 1-2 hours if drinking young, or longer if the bottle has been cellared for many years.

Château Pichon Longueville Baron dates back to 1689 and was once part of a single estate owned by Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville, who divided the property among his children in 1850. In the 1855 Classification, the estate was recognized as a Second Growth, and it has since earned a reputation as one of the finest producers in Pauillac. After being acquired by AXA in the 1980s, the château underwent major investment and modernization under Jean-Michel Cazes, including stricter grape selection, hand harvesting, and improved cellar facilities. Today, Pichon Baron is widely regarded as one of Bordeaux’s benchmark estates and a true reference for the quality of great Left Bank Cabernet.
