Château Pichon-Longueville au Baron de Pichon-Longueville 2016 Magnum

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2016 in magnum format is a superb example of why this Pauillac estate is often called a "super second". Built on a blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, it combines power, precision, and refinement in a style that can rival some of Bordeaux’s First Growths, while the magnum format offers exceptional aging potential and development in bottle.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the wine shows remarkable intensity and clarity. The nose is layered with warm blackcurrant, black plum, crème de cassis, graphite, truffle, tapenade, sandalwood, rose hip tea, and subtle exotic spice, all lifted by a refined mineral edge. On the palate, it is full-bodied and firmly structured, yet polished and seductive, with sweet tannins and a dense, almost creamy texture. Black fruits, pencil lead, iron-like minerality, and savory herbal nuances build toward a very long finish. This is a wine with serious cellaring potential and should evolve beautifully for decades, especially in magnum.

Viininvalmistus
The estate lies in Pauillac on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where gravel-rich soils and a classic maritime climate provide ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard work is highly meticulous, with each parcel managed according to the season’s conditions, and harvesting is done entirely by hand with strict selection by grape variety, vine age, and plot. After arrival at the winery, the grapes undergo careful vinification and maceration, followed by fermentation and malolactic conversion before the best lots are matured in oak barrels, with a high proportion of new French oak used for the grand vin. The final blend is assembled only after extensive tasting of numerous individual lots.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or game with mushroom sauces. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decant for several hours if opening young to allow the wine to fully unfold; the magnum format will reward extended cellar time if you prefer greater complexity.

Château Pichon Longueville Baron has roots dating back to 1689 and was originally part of a single estate before being divided in the mid-19th century among the Baron de Pichon Longueville’s heirs. Both Pichon-Baron and Pichon-Comtesse were classified as Second Growths in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, and Pichon-Baron later underwent a major renaissance after being acquired by AXA in the 1980s. With significant investment, stricter grape selection, hand harvesting, and modernized winemaking, the estate has re-established itself as one of the leading names in Pauillac and one of Bordeaux’s most respected "super seconds".
