Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 'Pichon Comtesse Reserve' 2018

Pichon Comtesse Reserve 2018 is the second wine of one of Pauillac’s most admired estates, offering the elegance and polish that have made Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande so sought after. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it captures the house style beautifully: refined, fragrant and silky, with impressive depth for a reserve label. It comes from a château with roots dating back to 1689 and a long history of aristocratic ownership, innovation and acclaim.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby-garnet color with a polished, inviting sheen. The nose is expressive and beautifully layered, with notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, cedar, pencil shavings, tobacco leaf and subtle floral nuances, all wrapped in a refined Bordeaux character. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, supple and precise, with ripe dark fruit, fine-grained tannins and a graceful, lingering finish. Compared with the grand vin, it is usually a little more approachable and airy, yet still carries the estate’s signature complexity and finesse. The 2018 vintage should age gracefully for several years, developing more savory and tertiary notes with time in bottle.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from the estate’s prime vineyards in southern Pauillac, close to the Gironde estuary, where deep gravel soils provide excellent drainage and help Cabernet Sauvignon ripen with intensity and balance. The vineyard holdings are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and parcels are vinified separately to preserve each site’s character. For the reserve wine, élevage is typically around 12 months in oak, with 25-40% new barrels depending on the vintage, giving structure and polish without overwhelming the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds and mushroom-based dishes, as well as hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Manchego. Serve it at 16-18°C and, if possible, decant for 30-60 minutes to allow the aromatics to खुल fully and the tannins to soften.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of Bordeaux’s historic names, founded in 1689 and later shaped by Virginie de Pichon Longueville, whose marriage added “de Lalande” to the estate’s name. Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Classification, the château has long been recognized for its elegant, aromatic style, standing apart from many of its more muscular Médoc neighbors. Under the stewardship of May-Eliane de Lencquesaing and later the Rouzaud family, the estate underwent major investment and modernization, further strengthening its reputation as one of Pauillac’s great properties.
