Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 'Pichon Comtesse Reserve' 2019

Pichon Comtesse Reserve 2019 is a beautifully composed Pauillac that captures the elegance and polish this estate is known for. A second wine in name, but far more than that in character, it offers impressive depth, precision and charm, with the classic Cabernet-led profile of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Rooted in one of Pauillac’s most storied properties, it carries the heritage of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande while showing a more approachable, supple expression of the vintage.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet-purple hue, promising richness from the start. The nose is expressive and layered, with aromas of blackcurrant, dark plums, stewed cherries, violets, cedar, tobacco leaf, spice and a subtle pencil shaving character that speaks clearly of Pauillac. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, smooth and refined, with plush dark fruit wrapped around fine tannins and lively freshness. There is a lovely sense of balance here: ripe fruit, gentle spice, floral lift and a long, elegant finish. The structure suggests excellent aging potential, and while it is already highly enjoyable, it should develop beautifully over the next 15 to 20 years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from the gravelly terroirs of southern Pauillac, close to the Gironde estuary, where the estate’s well-drained soils and maritime influence are ideally suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, reflecting a more classic Left Bank composition, and the fruit is harvested parcel by parcel to preserve nuance and precision. The wine is vinified separately by plot, then matured for around 12 months in barrel, with 25–40% new oak depending on the vintage, to add structure and complexity without overwhelming the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs wonderfully with classic Bordeaux fare such as roast lamb, entrecôte, beef tenderloin, duck breast, venison or dishes with mushrooms and truffle. It also works well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young, to allow the aromas and texture to open fully.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of Pauillac’s most admired estates, founded in 1689 and later split after Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville’s death in 1850, leading to the creation of Pichon Comtesse and Pichon Baron. The château gained 2nd Cru Classé status in the 1855 classification and rose to even greater prominence under May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, who modernized the estate and significantly expanded the vineyard holdings. Since its acquisition by the Rouzaud family in 2007, the property has continued to be refined and remains a reference point for the more elegant, supple side of Pauillac.
