Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques 2009 is a striking example of why this estate is so highly regarded in Burgundy. Combining power, precision, and finesse, it comes from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most prestigious Premier Cru vineyards, where the cool, stony slopes lend the wine both depth and freshness. The result is a Pinot Noir of real stature, shaped by both a celebrated site and a producer known for uncompromising quality.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby color that hints at its concentration and intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of dark cherries, wild strawberries, violets, spice, and a subtle toasty note from oak. On the palate, it is concentrated yet refined, with ripe berry fruit, fine-grained tannins, and a strong mineral backbone that brings energy and lift. The finish is long, harmonious, and silky, with lingering notes of fruit, stone, and gentle spice. Thanks to its structure and balance, this wine has excellent aging potential and should continue to evolve beautifully over many years.

Viininvalmistus
Lavaux Saint-Jacques is one of the most respected Premier Cru sites in Gevrey-Chambertin, set on a cool, rocky slope just west of the village with limestone-rich soils that naturally encourage freshness and precision. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted to ensure only fully ripe fruit enters the cellar. Vinification is traditional, with natural fermentation in open vats, followed by around 16 months of aging in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak to add structure and complexity without overwhelming the wine’s fruit. No filtration is used before bottling, helping preserve the wine’s texture and depth.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for roasted duck, game birds, beef tenderloin, lamb, and mushroom-based dishes, especially those with earthy or truffled elements. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 1-2 hours if drinking young to help the wine खुल fully and show its layered aromatics and texture.
