In the glass, Poetry shows a deep, dark garnet-purple color that hints at its concentration and intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, offering crème de cassis, blueberry compote, baked plum, violets, pencil lead, cedar, vanilla, and freshly roasted coffee beans. The palate is full-bodied, refined, and deeply structured, with ultra-fine tannins and a beautifully balanced, classical style. Flavors of blackcurrant, black cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate, liquorice, smoked meat, earth, and truffle unfold with impressive depth and length. This is a wine built for aging and should develop beautifully over the next 20–30 years, while also benefiting from several years of cellaring before opening.

Poetry comes from Cliff Lede’s prized Stags Leap District vineyards, an area known for its volcanic soils and exceptional ability to produce Cabernet Sauvignon with both intensity and elegance. The wine is a Bordeaux-style blend, led by Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a touch of Petit Verdot. After harvest, it is matured for 21 months in French oak barrels, a regimen that adds polish, spice, and structure while preserving the wine’s freshness and precision.

This is a wine that shines alongside richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb, venison, beef short ribs, or truffle-infused mushroom dishes. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opened young to allow the wine’s full aromatic depth and structure to emerge.
