In the glass, this 2009 vintage shows a deep, concentrated colour and a richly developed profile. Aromas of dark berries, cherry liqueur, liquorice, thyme, and warm stone notes rise from the glass, giving it both Mediterranean warmth and a distinctly mineral edge. The palate is broad, full, and velvety, with mature tannins and a creamy texture that supports the wine’s ripe fruit and savoury complexity. There is excellent length and balance here, with underlying freshness and minerality keeping the wine lifted. It is drinking beautifully now, though its structure suggests it could continue to hold well for a few more years.

Viininvalmistus
Combe des Fous comes from old Grenache vines growing on the heat-retaining, stony soils of La Crau in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where the terroir naturally encourages concentration and ripeness. Grenache is vinified in concrete to preserve purity and fruit expression, while the other grape varieties contribute structure and depth through more extraction and partial ageing in oak. The final blend is matured in a combination of stainless steel and larger casks, allowing the wine to gain finesse without excessive wood influence.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for rich meat dishes such as roast lamb, beef stew, game, or herb-crusted duck, as well as Provençal dishes with rosemary, thyme, and olives. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decanting is recommended if you want to bring out its full aromatic complexity and soften the tannins.
