Clos Saint-Jean Combe des Fous 2010 is a powerful and beautifully composed Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the stony terraces around La Crau, one of the appellation’s most prized areas. Built on old-vine Grenache and supported by Syrah, Cinsault, and Vaccarèse, it combines depth, finesse, and a distinctly Southern Rhône character. The wine reflects the historic prestige of Châteauneuf-du-Pape while showing the restrained, terroir-driven style Clos Saint-Jean is known for.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, the 2010 vintage shows deep concentration with a mature, polished profile. Aromas of dark berries, licorice, Provençal herbs, and a mineral edge rise from the glass, giving the wine both richness and freshness. On the palate, it is broad, warm, and long, with ripe fruit framed by refined, well-integrated tannins and a steady mineral core.
The wine’s structure is now fully rounded, offering a harmonious balance between power and elegance. While it has reached an excellent drinking window, it still has the density and complexity to hold beautifully over time for those who prefer a more developed expression.
Viininvalmistus
The fruit comes from warm, pebble-rich terraces in La Crau, where the stony soils and intense Rhône sun help produce grapes with exceptional ripeness and concentration. Yields are kept very low, and the grapes are carefully selected to ensure only the best fruit is used. Grenache is fermented in concrete to preserve purity and freshness, while the other varieties are handled to build structure and complexity. Aging takes place in a combination of stainless steel and larger oak casks, allowing the wine to retain its natural intensity without heavy barrel influence.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, slow-roasted beef, game birds, braised short ribs, and rich Mediterranean dishes with herbs, olives, and tomato. It also works well with mature hard cheeses and hearty mushroom-based recipes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to help the aromas open fully and soften the structure.
