Colgin IX Estate Red 2012

Colgin IX Estate Red 2012 is a standout Napa Valley Bordeaux-style blend from one of California’s most celebrated cult producers. Built around Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot from the high-elevation IX Estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill, it combines remarkable power with the kind of finesse that has made Colgin a reference point for collectors worldwide. With its exceptional critical acclaim and long aging potential, this is a wine that captures both the richness of Napa and the elegance of classic Bordeaux inspiration.

Makuprofiili
The wine shows a deep garnet-purple color in the glass, hinting at its concentration and intensity. The aromatics are layered and expressive, with notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, spring flowers, lavender, graphite, cigar box, smoked meat, dark chocolate, and dried Provençal herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied and richly textured, yet beautifully polished and harmonious. The fruit is dark and generous, supported by firm structure, fine tannins, and a long, resonant finish. While already impressive in youth, this wine is built for the cellar and should continue to evolve gracefully for 25–35 years, gaining even more complexity with time.

Viininvalmistus
The 2012 IX Estate Red comes from Colgin’s hillside vineyard high above Lake Hennessey in the Pritchard Hill area of Napa Valley, where elevation and exposure help create deeply concentrated fruit with freshness and lift. The grapes are carefully farmed and harvested from the estate vineyard, reflecting Colgin’s meticulous approach to viticulture. Winemaker Allison Tauziet vinified the wine in a classic style, then matured it for over two years in 100% new French oak before bottling, giving the final blend both structure and seamless integration.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that calls for rich, flavourful dishes such as grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, venison, roast lamb, or truffle-infused mushroom dishes. It also works beautifully with mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
