Colgin IX Estate Red 2015

Colgin IX Estate Red 2015 is one of Napa Valley’s most sought-after Bordeaux-style wines, combining remarkable power with the kind of finesse that has made Colgin a benchmark producer worldwide. Crafted from a precise blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot sourced from the estate’s high-altitude Pritchard Hill vineyard, it reflects both intensity and elegance in equal measure. It is also a wine with serious historical weight, coming from a producer that has helped define the modern elite of California fine wine.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet-purple hue that immediately signals concentration and depth. The bouquet is layered and expressive, with blackcurrant, blackberry, smoked meat, dark chocolate, dried Provençal herbs, lavender, cigar box, and warm baking spice all unfolding with air. The palate is full-bodied, rich, and deeply textured, yet remarkably polished, with fine tannins and beautifully integrated acidity. Despite its youthful intensity, the wine carries a poised, earthy restraint that gives it impressive balance and length. It is built for the long haul and should continue to develop complexity over the next 25–30 years, gaining further nuance with 4–5 years of bottle age.

Viininvalmistus
The IX Estate vineyard sits high above Hennessey Lake on a secluded hillside site in Pritchard Hill, St. Helena, where the elevated position and Napa Valley mountain terrain contribute to the wine’s concentration, freshness, and structure. The grapes are harvested from Colgin’s estate vineyard and vinified using classic, time-tested methods, with careful fermentation followed by extended maturation in 100% new oak barrels for around two years before bottling.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural match for richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, roasted lamb, braised short ribs, venison, or truffle-infused mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended, especially in its youth, to allow the wine’s layered aromatics and tightly woven structure to open fully.
