Colgin Tychson Hill 2016 is one of those rare Napa Valley wines that feels truly once-in-a-lifetime. Built around 95% Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it comes from the historic Tychson Hill vineyard in St. Helena, first planted in 1881 and prized for its cooler hillside exposure. The result is a Cabernet of remarkable depth, elegance, and pedigree, made from a site with a deep connection to Napa’s early winemaking history.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet-purple color that hints at its concentration and intensity. The nose is lavish and highly expressive, with layers of cassis, blackcurrant, redcurrant, tobacco leaf, graphite, sandalwood, licorice, cinnamon, and lifted floral notes of lilac, lavender, and rose.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, powerful, and profoundly layered, yet carries a seamless, velvety texture that keeps everything in balance. The fruit is exceptionally pure and concentrated, with freshness that carries through to an extremely long finish. While already impressive now, this wine has the structure and harmony to age beautifully for 30 to 40 years, developing even greater complexity with time.
Viininvalmistus
Tychson Hill is a small, north-facing hillside vineyard in St. Helena, offering a slightly cooler site that helps preserve aromatic detail and flavor precision during extended hang-time. The vineyard is rooted in Napa history, originally planted in 1881 by Josephine Tychson, one of the region’s early pioneers. Harvesting is done by hand with meticulous sorting, and after fermentation the wine is matured for two years in 100% new oak barrels, which adds polish, structure, and spice while supporting the wine’s immense depth.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine for equally special food pairings such as dry-aged ribeye, roasted lamb, venison, or beef tenderloin with truffle or wild mushroom sauces. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for several hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and tannins to fully open.

Colgin Cellars was founded by Ann Colgin in 1992 and has become one of Napa Valley’s most respected cult producers, known for combining power with exceptional finesse. The estate now works with three prized vineyard sites: IX Estate, Cariad, and Tychson Hill, each contributing a distinct expression of Napa terroir. Colgin’s reputation was cemented early by top critical acclaim, and in 2017 it became the only American winery named a strategic partner in the LVMH group and included among its prestigious Vins d’Exception.
