Domaine Clos Frantin Chambertin Grand Cru 2020 is a standout Burgundy from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most revered vineyards. Crafted from Pinot Noir and shaped by a terroir rich in marl, it offers the depth, precision, and elegance that define great Chambertin, with a legacy that reaches back to the 13th century and Napoleon’s well-known admiration for the appellation.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Grand Cru shows the refined depth expected of top-tier Chambertin, with a deep, polished color and an aromatic profile that is both intense and layered. The nose opens with complex notes of green tea, cigar box, plums, dates, rosemary, blackberry, crushed stone, and a subtle hint of menthol.
The palate is rich, full-bodied, and powerful, yet beautifully balanced, with a velvety texture and a generous, succulent core. There is impressive concentration without heaviness, and the finish is long, aromatic, and satisfyingly layered. While already appealing for its charm and generosity, this wine has the structure and substance to evolve gracefully over many years.
Viininvalmistus
The Clos Frantin parcel for this Chambertin Grand Cru covers just 0.17 hectares and sits on marl-rich soils, which tend to slow ripening and make it one of the latest plots to be harvested. The vineyard is farmed organically, with compost and ploughing replacing herbicides and artificial fertilizers, and rigorous pruning ensures low yields of concentrated fruit. Vinification and aging are handled with minimal intervention, with the wine transferred by gravity and matured for 12 to 18 months in oak barrels, including a thoughtful mix of oak origins and toast levels to add nuance without overshadowing the terroir.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine for refined dishes with depth and savoriness, such as roast duck, game birds, beef fillet, wild mushroom risotto, or braised venison. It also pairs beautifully with truffle-based dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently for 1 to 2 hours if enjoying young; older bottles may only need a brief decant to open up.

Under Albéric Bichot, who has led the company since 1996, the estate has expanded to include some of the region’s most sought-after vineyards across Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise, and Beaujolais. Domaine du Clos Frantin, based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, is a key part of this portfolio and is known for its organic vineyards and a winemaking philosophy that aims to let each village and terroir speak clearly through the wine.
