Domaine de la Roche Aiguë Saint-Romain Blanc Le Bas de Poillanges 2022 is a finely balanced Burgundy Chardonnay that delivers both richness and minerality in a very appealing style. Sourced from the domaine’s own parcel in Saint-Romain, this wine shows why the appellation deserves more attention: it offers classic Burgundy character, impressive finesse, and excellent value for the quality.

Makuprofiili
The wine pours a pale, bright colour with attractive green and golden reflections. On the nose, it opens with aromas of apple, pear, citrus, almond, and a touch of honey, giving it a graceful combination of freshness and maturity. On the palate, it is full and rounded, with a subtle richness that is lifted beautifully by lively acidity and a distinct mineral edge. The result is a wine with plenty of fruit, charm, and a long, satisfying finish. While already highly enjoyable now, it should also hold well over the next few years, gaining added complexity with time.

Viininvalmistus
The fruit comes from the domaine’s own parcel in Saint-Romain, situated at 300–400 metres above sea level. The site’s marl, clay, and limestone soils contribute significantly to the wine’s pronounced minerality, while the elevated exposure helps preserve freshness and balance. Winemaker Eric Guillemard mainly ages the wine in used barrels to protect the purity of the fruit and allow the terroir to remain at the forefront.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roast chicken, veal, creamy fish dishes, shellfish, mushroom risotto, and aged hard cheeses. Serve it slightly chilled at around 10–12°C to show both its aromatic lift and textural depth. Decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open the wine if served young.
