Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands Echézeaux 2011 is a benchmark Grand Cru Burgundy from one of the most revered estates in the world. Made from Pinot Noir, it combines power and finesse in a style that is unmistakably DRC: deeply expressive, beautifully structured, and shaped by one of the Côte de Nuits’ most prized vineyards. With roots in a winemaking tradition that stretches back centuries, this is a bottle that speaks as much to history as it does to precision and terroir.

In the glass, the wine shows a poised, refined presence rather than overt heaviness, with a brightness that reflects the cool elegance of the 2011 vintage. The nose is more intense and fruit-driven than the estate’s Echézeaux, opening with fuller, rounder aromatics and layers of ripe red and dark berries, subtle cassis, and a faint note of overripe citrus peel. As it opens, spice and floral nuances emerge, giving the bouquet a harmonious and lifted feel.
The palate is fresh and well balanced, with a polished entry and slightly powdery tannins that frame the fruit without dominating it. There is more weight and depth than in the Echézeaux, but the wine remains composed, never losing its sense of detail or control. A gently building mid-palate leads into a lightly spiced, expansive finish. While already expressive, it has the structure and balance to age gracefully for years, with drinking potential that can comfortably extend well into the next decade and beyond.
Viininvalmistus
Grands Echézeaux is a Grand Cru site in Vosne-Romanée, where clay-limestone soils and an exceptional Burgundian terroir give Pinot Noir both concentration and finesse. The fruit for this wine was hand-harvested in early September, with grapes carefully sorted upon arrival at the winery to ensure only the healthiest berries were retained. Fermentation takes place traditionally in large old wooden vats, followed by aging in new French oak barrels for around 16 to 18 months. The estate’s philosophy is to intervene as little as possible in the cellar, allowing the vineyard character and vintage to shine through with clarity.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine deserves refined dishes that complement its depth and structure, such as roast duck, pigeon, venison, truffle risotto, or mushroom-based dishes. It also pairs beautifully with game birds, lamb, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for one to two hours if drinking young, so the aromatics can fully open and the tannins soften gently.
