Domaine François Bertheau Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2023 is a profound and highly sought-after Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most revered Grand Cru sites. Sourced from a tiny 0.344-hectare parcel in terres rouges, it offers impressive depth, muscle, and complexity, and is a wine that rewards patience with remarkable development in the cellar.

In the glass, this Bonnes-Mares shows the darker, more structured side of Pinot Noir, with a deep ruby hue that hints at its concentration and seriousness. The nose opens with a layered bouquet of peonies, cherry, cassis, redcurrant leaf, and earthy, rich soil notes, creating an aromatic profile that is both elegant and powerful. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep, and firmly structured, with juicy acidity carrying the fruit through to a long, mineral finish. Compared with the more immediately approachable wines in the domaine’s range, this is the most muscular cuvée and one that will benefit greatly from bottle age. Enjoyable with air when young, it should gain in harmony, nuance, and detail over time.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes for this Grand Cru come from a very small parcel in Bonnes-Mares, planted on terres rouges, a soil type that contributes to the wine’s depth, structure, and earthy complexity. At Domaine François Bertheau, the fruit is fully destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for two to three weeks before élevage, during which new oak rarely exceeds 10%. This careful, restrained approach allows the character of the vineyard to remain front and center.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with elegant, flavor-rich dishes such as roast duck, game bird, beef tenderloin, truffled mushroom risotto, or herb-crusted lamb. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for an hour or two if drinking young to help open the aromatics and soften the structure.
