Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron Nuits Saint Georges Fleurieres 2018

Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Fleurieres 2018 is a polished and deeply expressive Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most respected domaines. Sourced from the small Les Fleurieres climat in the south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, it combines Vosne-influenced elegance with the darker, more supple character that makes this appellation so compelling. Historically, the site is said to have once been a flower garden, a subtle hint at the wine’s refined floral undertone.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this 2018 shows an inky, concentrated colour that immediately suggests richness. The nose is generous and inviting, offering plush bramble fruit, dark cherry, fennel, liquorice and a gentle floral lift, all framed by stylish new oak. On the palate, it is supple and full of glossy fruit, with a smooth texture and finely integrated tannins that give the wine both charm and structure. The finish is long and savoury, carrying dark berry depth and spice. While already highly drinkable, it should also reward short- to mid-term cellaring as the fruit and oak settle further together.

Viininvalmistus
Les Fleurieres lies in the southern part of Côte de Nuits, just below Nuits-Saint-Georges, on soils with a good proportion of limestone and patches of clay. The vines are around 30 years old and are farmed organically, with work in the vineyard guided by the lunar calendar and ploughing carried out by horse. The grapes are harvested relatively early to preserve freshness and precision, and in 2018 no whole bunches were used because the generous yields left insufficient space in the tanks. The wine was matured with 70% new French oak, helping to shape the structure and add depth without masking the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir is a natural partner for roast duck, game bird, mushroom dishes, veal, or pork tenderloin, and it also works beautifully with truffled risotto or mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended if opening young, as it will help the wine show its aromatics and soften the oak.

Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron was founded in 1926 by Jean Confuron of Vosne and Anne-Marie Bouchard of Premeaux, and today it is regarded as one of Burgundy’s standout producers. The domaine experienced a major renaissance under Sophie Meunier and her husband Alain, who helped elevate the estate’s reputation for precision and depth. Today, their son Louis is increasingly involved in the winemaking, continuing the family transition while preserving the estate’s commitment to organic farming, low yields and uncompromising quality.
