Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron Romanée Saint Vivant 2018 Magnum is a captivating Grand Cru from one of Burgundy’s most respected domaines, offering remarkable depth, finesse, and poise. From a prized 0.5ha parcel planted in 1926, this is a beautifully expressive Pinot Noir that combines dark-fruited intensity with floral complexity, elegant structure, and outstanding precision.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a refined, polished character with a deep ruby core and the kind of luminous clarity often seen in top Burgundy. The bouquet is especially striking, unfolding with blackberry, boysenberry, blueberry, crushed violet petals, violet, and aniseed, alongside subtle notes of chalk, stylish oak, and a hint of reduction. On the palate, it is medium-bodied yet intensely layered, with very fine tannins and perfectly judged acidity giving the wine both grace and drive. Dark bramble and black cherry fruit lead the way, supported by smooth texture, delicate mineral undertones, and a long, composed finish. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, and while already impressive, it should continue to gain complexity and nuance over time.

Viininvalmistus
The Romanée Saint Vivant comes from a small 0.5-hectare parcel planted in 1926, set on limestone-rich soils with areas of clay in the southern part of Côte de Nuits. The vineyard is farmed organically, with work guided by the lunar cycle and the soil ploughed by horse, reflecting the domaine’s commitment to careful, hands-on viticulture. Grapes are harvested relatively early, with low yields of around 28–30 hl/ha to preserve freshness and concentration. Vinification is traditional and meticulous, with the wine aged in 100% new French oak and bottled unfiltered at release, helping to retain purity, texture, and detail.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Grand Cru is an excellent match for dishes that can complement its finesse and depth, such as roast duck, pigeon, game birds, veal, wild mushroom risotto, or truffled dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 1–2 hours if opening young, to allow the aromatics and structure to fully unfold.

Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron was founded in 1926 by Jean Confuron and Anne-Marie Bouchard de Premeaux, and today it stands among Burgundy’s most admired producers. Based in the southern part of Côte de Nuits, the domaine has experienced a strong renaissance under Sophie Meunier and winemaker Alain Meunier, with their son Louis now taking over much of the winemaking. Known for its precise, deeply flavored wines and steadfast dedication to quality, the estate has also been an organic producer since the 1990s and is highly regarded for its expressive Pinot Noir from premier sites across Burgundy.
