Domaine la Soumade Rasteau Cuvée Confiance 2019 Magnum

Domaine la Soumade Rasteau Cuvée Confiance 2019 Magnum is a deeply characterful Rhône red made from old-vine Grenache, with fruit sourced from vines that are up to 100 years old. This is a wine that showcases just how far Rasteau has come, combining concentrated fruit, low yields, and traditional élevage in large foudres for a wine with real presence and authenticity.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine is exceptionally dark, almost opaque, hinting at its depth and intensity. The nose is powerfully expressive, opening with blackcurrant, dark plum, black pepper, lavender, violet, and a touch of earthy, sun-baked garrigue. On the palate, it is rustic in the best possible sense: rich, structured, and full of ripe dark fruit, warm spice, and earthy herbal notes that echo the aromas. The low-yield old vines bring concentration and length, while the traditional ageing adds texture and subtle complexity. It already offers plenty of appeal, but it should gain even more nuance over the next few years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from old Grenache vines in Rasteau, a southern Rhône appellation known for its sun-drenched Mediterranean conditions and rugged, characterful wines. Yields are kept extremely low at around 25 hectoliters per hectare, and the fruit is harvested by hand and carefully sorted before vinification. The wine is then aged for 18 months in a combination of cement tank and traditional 4,000-liter foudres, helping preserve purity of fruit while adding structure and complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine is a natural partner for hearty dishes such as lamb, duck, slow-cooked beef, game, and richly seasoned Mediterranean cuisine. It also works beautifully with roasted vegetables, Provençal herb dishes, and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least an hour to let the aromas open up and the wine fully express its depth.
