In the glass, this wine shows a deep ruby-red color with a violet sheen, hinting at its youthful energy and concentration. The nose is layered and expressive, with dark berries such as blackcurrant and blackberry joined by violet, rose petals, truffle, toasted oak, and a touch of exotic spice. The palate is intense and silky, with a dense framework of ripe tannins and fresh, vivid acidity that lifts the wine beautifully. Flavors of dark chocolate, liquorice, forest floor, and mineral nuance unfold through a long, persistent finish. While already impressive with decanting, this 2016 Richebourg has excellent aging potential and will continue to gain complexity over the next 20–25 years.
