Domaine Raspail-Ay Gigondas 2022

Domaine Raspail-Ay Gigondas 2022 is a classic expression of one of the southern Rhône’s most respected appellations. Family-owned since the 1800s, the domaine is known for producing powerful, age-worthy wines with depth and authenticity, shaped by old vines, low yields, and a traditional approach that stays true to Gigondas’ rugged character.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby-red colour with a violet edge. The nose is generous and complex, offering black cherry, dried thyme, leather, and crushed pepper, with a distinctly Mediterranean herbal lift. The palate is dense and structured, with ripe dark berries, Provençal herbs, and a subtle mineral backbone. The tannins are firm yet polished, supported by a fresh core that keeps the wine balanced and vibrant. This is a wine that can be enjoyed young with decanting, but it also has the structure and concentration to develop beautifully over several years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from old vines planted in stony limestone and clay soils on the slopes of Gigondas, at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Harvesting is done by hand, and vinification follows a traditional path with long maceration in cement tanks, no new oak, and natural malolactic conversion. The wine is then matured in large, old foudres, preserving both the fruit purity and the sense of place.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs naturally with grilled lamb, duck, beef stew, game, and richly seasoned Mediterranean dishes such as herb-crusted roast meats or ratatouille. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for about 1–2 hours if drinking young to help open the aromatics and soften the tannins.

Domaine Raspail-Ay has been family-run since the 19th century and is widely regarded as one of the benchmark estates in Gigondas. With around 18 hectares of vineyards, the domaine has built its reputation on traditional winemaking, low yields, and consistently characterful wines that reflect the strength and seriousness of the appellation.
