Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas Les Souteyrades 2020 Magnum is a beautifully expressive Southern Rhône red, showing the depth and charm of old-vine Grenache from one of Gigondas’ most respected family domaines. With its layers of cherry liqueur, orange blossom, cracked pepper, and garrigue-like herbs, it combines generous richness with remarkable elegance and structure. Built to age gracefully, this is a wine with the pedigree and concentration to reward patience over the next two decades.

In the glass, Les Souteyrades presents a deep, vibrant ruby color that hints at its concentration and old-vine intensity. The nose is intensely aromatic, unfolding with cherry liqueur, orange blossom, ground pepper, and dried Provençal herbs, all carried by a refined, lifted freshness. On the palate, it is full-bodied and layered, with ripe, pure fruit framed by impressive tannins and a supple, elegant texture. Despite its richness, the wine remains precise and balanced, with a long, mineral-driven finish. Thanks to its structure and concentration, it has excellent aging potential and can develop beautifully over the coming 15 to 20 years.

Viininvalmistus
Les Souteyrades comes from Domaine Saint-Damien’s holdings in Gigondas, where the vines average over 70 years of age and some parcels are more than a century old. The estate is farmed organically, and the old vines grow in the sun-drenched, stony terroir of the southern Rhône, where low yields naturally contribute to concentration and complexity. The grapes are harvested with care and vinified to preserve purity of fruit, aromatic detail, and the structured elegance that defines the cuvée.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural partner for rich, savory dishes such as lamb shoulder, duck confit, slow-braised beef, game, or herb-roasted vegetables. It also works beautifully with Provencal cuisine, including dishes seasoned with rosemary, thyme, and garlic. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours when young to allow the wine’s aromas and tannins to open fully.

Domaine Saint-Damien is a historic family estate in Gigondas, with five generations of the Saurel family working the land since 1821. The domaine took its current name in 1979, inspired by a long-lost chapel dedicated to Saint Damien near La Beaumette. Today, under the direction of Romain Saurel since 2015, the estate is recognized for its old-vine holdings, organic farming since 2012, and its reputation as one of the benchmark producers in Gigondas.
