Dominus 2017 Magnum

Dominus 2017 Magnum is a powerful and highly sought-after Napa Valley red, presented in magnum format for added cellaring potential and impact at the table. Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, it combines depth, precision, and elegance in a style that has made Dominus one of California’s most iconic Bordeaux blends. The 2017 vintage also carries a particular sense of rarity, as it was produced in very limited quantities following a challenging growing season.

In the glass, Dominus shows a deep, dark ruby color that hints at its intensity and concentration. The nose is layered and refined, offering black cherry, blackcurrant, tobacco, spice, and a subtle cedar note, all woven together with impressive complexity. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and tightly structured, with ripe, well-integrated tannins supporting a core of dense fruit and earthy nuances. The finish is long and elegant, with touches of vanilla and oak spice that add lift and definition. While already compelling, this is a wine built for the cellar and should continue to evolve beautifully over many years, gaining further nuance and harmony with time.

Dominus Estate sits in Napa Valley, California, where the estate vineyards benefit from a warm growing climate balanced by careful site selection and meticulous vineyard work. The 2017 season was marked by unusually wet winter and spring conditions, followed by intense heat waves and a very small crop, making fruit selection especially important. Grapes were hand-harvested from the best parcels, handled gently to preserve quality, and fermented in small open-top tanks before aging for around 18 months in French oak barrels.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for prime beef, lamb, venison, braised short ribs, or richly flavored dishes such as roast duck with dark cherry sauce. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least one to two hours if drinking now, especially given the wine’s magnum size and firm structure.
