Dominus Napanook 2019

Dominus Napanook 2019 is the more approachable second wine from the legendary Dominus Estate, offering a refined taste of Napa Valley with impressive depth and structure. First made in 1996 by Christian Moueix and winemaker Boris Champy, it was created to capture the estate’s exceptional fruit in a style that can be enjoyed earlier, while still reflecting the pedigree and precision of one of California’s most respected producers.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Napanook 2019 shows a deep, dark ruby colour that hints at its concentration and power. The nose is layered with blackcurrant, ripe blackberry, dark plum and violet, lifted by notes of cedar, graphite, spice and a touch of earthy complexity. On the palate, the wine is broad and structured, with polished tannins and a rich core of dark fruit balanced by freshness and savoury nuance. Cabernet Sauvignon brings backbone, Cabernet Franc adds aromatic lift, and Petit Verdot contributes colour and density. It is enjoyable now with air, but has the balance and substance to evolve beautifully over the next decade or more.

Napanook is sourced from carefully selected parcels within Dominus Estate’s historic Yountville vineyards in Napa Valley, where warm days, cooling influences and well-drained soils create ideal conditions for Bordeaux varietals. The 2019 growing season brought a wet winter and spring, followed by a warm summer and a heat spike in June, encouraging strong vine growth and steady ripening. Fruit is harvested with precision and vinified with the estate’s meticulous, restrained approach, aiming to preserve purity, structure and site expression.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with prime rib, grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, lamb, duck breast and dishes featuring mushrooms or truffle. Serve at 16–18°C and decant for about 1–2 hours if drinking young, to help the wine open fully and soften its tannins.
