Dugat-Py’s Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2005 is a deeply expressive Burgundy from one of the most respected names in the Côte de Nuits. Sourced from very old vines in the southern part of the vineyard, it combines the vineyard’s natural generosity with Dugat-Py’s famously low yields and precise élevage, resulting in a wine of concentration, depth, and refined power. After two decades, it shows the poised complexity and classical grandeur that have made Charmes-Chambertin one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most admired sites.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Grand Cru is likely showing a mature, polished ruby-garnet hue with the translucency and depth typical of age-worthy Pinot Noir. The nose has evolved into a layered bouquet of forest floor, truffle, leather, dried dark cherry, sweet spice, and subtle oriental notes, all framed by a calm, savory maturity.
On the palate, the wine is silky yet concentrated, with a supple texture, rounded tannins, and vibrant acidity that still gives the 2005 vintage energy and lift. Dark fruit has given way to a more complex, earthy profile, while the oak is integrated and supportive rather than dominant. This is a wine at a beautiful peak now, though it may hold gracefully for a few more years in a good cellar.
Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from very old vines in the southern section of Charmes-Chambertin, where deep limestone and clay soils tend to produce wines with both richness and roundness. Harvesting is done by hand, and Dugat-Py works with extremely low yields to preserve intensity and character. The wine undergoes a long maceration in small open vats before being aged for around 18 months in new oak barrels, building structure and complexity while preserving the vineyard’s natural charm.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This mature Grand Cru pairs beautifully with dishes that echo its earthy, savory depth, such as roast duck, pigeon, veal tenderloin, mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, or game birds with rich sauces. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting for about 30–60 minutes is recommended if the bottle is still tightly wound, but handle gently to avoid diminishing its delicate mature aromas.
