DuMOL Cabernet Sauvignon Ballard 2018 is a beautifully poised take on Cabernet, showing a more classic, cooler-climate profile than many modern California bottlings. Sourced from the high-altitude Ballard Vineyard on Spring Mountain, it offers remarkable aromatic complexity, refined structure, and a level of elegance that speaks to both the site and the producer’s style.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Cabernet shows a deep, dark-fruited core with bright red-fruit highlights. The nose is especially expressive, layering black and red berries with dried thyme, wild sage, rose petals, and cedar, giving it an almost mountain-herbal freshness. On the palate, cassis, bay leaf, anise, herbs, and a subtle grilled-meat character unfold across a sleek, elegant frame. The tannins are finely knit and polished, supporting the wine without overpowering it. This is a Cabernet with at least 10 years of aging potential, and it should continue to gain nuance over time.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from Ballard Vineyard, tucked into a small clearing at around 700 meters elevation on Spring Mountain in California. The cooler mountain conditions keep yields low and the berries small, concentrating flavor while preserving freshness and aromatic lift. After harvest, the wine was aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, 57% of them new, which adds structure, spice, and depth without masking the vineyard character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Cabernet pairs naturally with grilled ribeye, lamb chops, roast duck, venison, or dishes featuring mushrooms, rosemary, and other earthy herbs. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 1-2 hours if drinking young to let the aromatics open and the tannins soften.

Winemaker Andy Smith has spent nearly 25 years working in California and has become known for a style that favors freshness and site character over excessive ripeness. DuMOL has earned a strong reputation among collectors for its carefully made, small-production wines, and this bottling, with only 154 cases produced, reflects that boutique approach.
