Failla Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

Failla Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2019 is a bright, finely tuned California Chardonnay with a distinctly cool-climate profile. Grown on Failla’s own estate vineyard, planted in 1998 at over 400 meters above sea level and just 6 km from the Pacific Ocean, it combines freshness, precision, and coastal elegance in a style that feels more restrained and mineral-driven than many Napa or Sonoma examples. The estate’s biodynamic approach and dry-farming add further character and a strong sense of place.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a light yellow color. The nose is lifted and expressive, opening with lemon zest, lime, lemongrass, crushed stones, and a subtle sea-breeze character, layered with notes of golden pineapple, lemon curd, vanilla, peach, orange blossom, and almond. On the palate, it is fresh, citrus-driven, and elegant, with crisp acidity carrying the wine from start to finish. Mineral notes add tension and definition, while the fruit remains juicy and sun-kissed without losing balance. The finish is clean and refined, and the wine has the structure and acidity to age gracefully for around 8–10 years.

Viininvalmistus
The estate vineyard sits in a cool, coastal zone at elevation, where marine winds from the nearby Pacific help preserve freshness and natural acidity. The vines are farmed according to biodynamic principles and are not irrigated, encouraging low yields and concentrated fruit. Harvest is done entirely by hand, and the grapes are pressed mostly as whole clusters before fermentation and maturation in a combination of French oak barrels, cement tank, and Austrian casks. The wine then rests on its lees for 11 months, adding texture and complexity while keeping the style vibrant and precise.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roasted chicken, grilled halibut, lobster, scallops, creamy pasta, risotto, and poultry dishes with herbs or citrus. It also works well with soft cheeses and vegetable dishes featuring asparagus or mushrooms. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and while decanting is not necessary, a short aeration can help the wine open up in the glass.

Failla Wines was founded in 1998 by Ehren Jordan and Anne-Marie Failla, and quickly became known for expressive, terroir-driven wines made with a hands-on, uncompromising approach. Jordan’s background is unusually broad, moving from wine retail and cellar work to consultative winemaking in the Rhône and later a successful stint at Turley Wine Cellars before launching his own label. Today, Failla is especially respected for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, crafted in a fresh, European-inspired cool-climate style that has earned the winery a strong reputation in California.
