Failla Hudson Vineyard Syrah 2019 is a striking example of what Syrah can achieve in the right hands and from an exceptional site. In the glass, expect a deep, dark color that hints at the wine’s concentration and intensity. The nose is likely to show classic Syrah character with layers of black fruit, pepper, smoked meat, violet, and savory spice, all lifted by a refined, cool-climate freshness. On the palate, this should be a powerful yet balanced wine, with ripe dark berries, plum, earthy complexity, and a touch of oak-derived spice woven into a structured frame. The use of whole clusters adds aromatic complexity and an underlying grip, while the 11 months in French oak provide polish without overwhelming the fruit. Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from Hudson Vineyard in the southwestern part of Napa Valley, a historic site originally planted in 1967 and long regarded as one of the region’s standout vineyards. Fruit is harvested and sorted by hand, and the wine is fermented with whole clusters before aging for 11 months in French oak barrels, 15% of which are new. The result is a Syrah that reflects both the quality of the site and a careful, low-intervention approach in the cellar.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Syrah is a natural match for grilled lamb, beef short ribs, rosemary roast chicken, duck, or rich mushroom-based dishes. It also works beautifully with hard cheeses and savory Mediterranean cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the aromas and structure to fully open up.
