Galia Villages 2016 Magnum is a bold yet refined red from Castilla y León, offering a beautifully expressive take on Spain’s high-altitude vineyards. Crafted by Jérôme Bougnaud in collaboration with El Regajal, it stands out for its blend of old-vine fruit, careful cellar work, and the balance it achieves between power, freshness, and finesse. With fruit sourced largely from Ribera del Duero and nearby historic parcels just beyond the official borders, it captures both place and tradition in a distinctive way.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, Galia Villages 2016 shows a deep, intense ruby color that hints at its concentration and structure. The nose is layered and inviting, with violet, ripe cherry, floral notes, and a subtle lift of spice and eucalyptus that adds freshness and complexity.
On the palate, it is full-bodied but impeccably balanced, with a silky texture, polished tannins, and vibrant acidity that keeps the wine lively. Flavors of ripe red berries unfold alongside pepper, clove, and a refined mineral edge, leading to a long, aromatic finish. Thanks to its structure and freshness, this magnum has excellent aging potential and will continue to evolve gracefully over time.
Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from six small parcels of nearly centenarian vines planted at 800 to 1,000 meters above sea level, on calcareous clay and gravel soils that contribute both tension and depth. Harvesting is done with great care to preserve fruit quality, and vinification combines indigenous yeasts, a mix of whole clusters and de-stemmed grapes, and extended maceration to build complexity without losing purity. The wine is then aged for 21 months in a combination of French barriques and larger foudres, with only around 15% new oak, allowing the terroir and fruit to remain at the forefront.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled beef, game dishes, rich stews, and mature hard cheeses, where its structure and spice can complement savory, deeply flavored food. Serve it at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the aromatics to open fully and the tannins to soften, especially if drinking young.
