Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes 1er Cru 2015 is a finely tuned expression of Pinot Noir from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most admired premier cru sites. With its combination of mineral precision, red berry brightness and the hallmark depth of Hubert Lignier, it captures both the energy of the vintage and the character of this legendary Burgundy terroir.

In the glass, this wine shows a vivid, translucent ruby hue typical of great Pinot Noir from Burgundy. The nose is compact at first, then gradually opens to reveal crisp red berries, wet limestone and subtle flinty nuances, giving it a refined and engaging aromatic profile. The palate is beautifully focused, with superb mineral drive and an elegant line of acidity carrying the fruit. A slight edge builds toward the finish, adding tension and a sense of nervosité that makes the wine feel especially alive. The small proportion of whole-bunch fruit lifts the aromatics and allows the terroir to speak clearly. It has excellent aging potential and should continue to evolve gracefully for 20+ years, with some tasters preferring to give it a few more years in bottle before opening.

Aux Combottes is a prized Premier Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, where limestone-rich soils and the cooler slopes of the Côte de Nuits contribute to wines with structure, finesse and mineral depth. Hubert Lignier works with a strong respect for terroir, using organically minded farming without pesticides or herbicides to preserve the health of the vines and the surrounding environment. Harvesting is carried out carefully to ensure only ripe, high-quality fruit is selected, and the vinification typically emphasizes traditional Burgundian methods, with a restrained use of whole clusters to add complexity and preserve site expression.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Serve this wine with dishes that complement its finesse and structure, such as roast duck, pigeon, mushroom tart, venison, or seared beef with a light wine reduction. It also pairs beautifully with earthy vegetarian dishes featuring wild mushrooms, truffle, or lentils. Best served at 15-17°C, and decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended if opening young, especially to help the aromatics unfold and soften the wine’s youthful tension.

Hubert Lignier is a family domaine founded in 1880, when Jacques Lignier purchased vines in Morey-Saint-Denis in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Today, the estate is run by Hubert and Laurent Lignier, continuing a five-generation legacy across roughly nine hectares and a broad range of Bourgogne, village, premier cru and grand cru wines. The domaine is highly regarded for producing traditionally styled wines with depth, structure and notable aging potential, and it is especially respected for its work in Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin.
