Inglenook Rubicon 2018

Inglenook Rubicon 2018 is a flagship Napa Valley red that reflects the estate’s long-standing ambition to stand among the world’s great wine houses. First released in 1978, Rubicon has become a benchmark for the estate, combining old-world restraint with California richness and remarkable cellar potential.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet-purple colour, hinting at its concentration and structure. The nose is expressive yet refined, unfolding with notes of crème de cassis, blackberry pie, baked plums, mocha, cedar, grilled meats, tapenade and a subtle herbal lift of garrigue. On the palate, Rubicon 2018 is full-bodied and elegantly framed, with layers of juicy black fruit supported by fine-grained tannins and vibrant freshness. There is impressive balance and length here, with a polished, aromatic finish that lingers beautifully. This is a wine built for the cellar and should reward at least a few years of patience, with the potential to evolve gracefully over 15–20 years or more.

Inglenook’s Rutherford estate sits in one of Napa Valley’s most revered terroirs, where well-drained soils and warm days balanced by cooler nights help produce Cabernet-based wines of depth, finesse and longevity. The Rubicon is drawn from the best parcels of the estate, with only the finest fruit selected to capture both site expression and vintage character. While detailed vinification is not provided, the wine is clearly made with a focus on careful selection, precision and aging potential.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for prime rib, beef tenderloin, lamb chops, venison, truffle-infused dishes and hard aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young, as this will help the wine open up and show its full aromatic complexity.

Inglenook was founded in 1879 by Gustave Niebaum, a Finnish sea captain and wine connoisseur who set out to create a California estate capable of rivaling Europe’s finest properties. Located in Rutherford, Napa Valley, the estate became a historic reference point for quality winemaking and is now owned by Francis Ford Coppola, who helped restore its prestige. Inglenook remains one of the region’s most significant estates, with Rubicon standing as its most recognisable achievement.
