Jean-Louis Chave St. Joseph 2005

Jean-Louis Chave’s St. Joseph 2005 is a beautifully layered Syrah from one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected names. Drawing on fruit from distinct parcels, including granite-rich sites and older vines, it combines savory spice, dark fruit, and mineral drive in a style that reflects both the character of St. Joseph and the finesse of the Chave family.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this wine shows a deep, dark ruby color that hints at its concentration and maturity. The nose opens with peppery raspberry, cherry, and cassis, lifted by pronounced spice and a strong mineral edge that speaks clearly of granite soils. On the palate, it is rounded yet precise, with sweet cassis, blackberry, and dense berry fruit framed by earthy structure and vibrant acidity. The wine has excellent depth and balance, and at this stage it should be showing graceful evolution while still retaining enough structure to continue aging well for several more years.

Viininvalmistus
This St. Joseph comes from carefully selected parcels, including Bachasson on granite soils and Dardouille, where older vines are rooted in granite and clay. The contrasting terroirs contribute both lift and structure, with the granite bringing mineral tension and spice, while the clay adds roundness and density. The harvest is traditionally handled with a focus on quality fruit selection, and the final blend is assembled to capture the best expression of each site.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Syrah pairs naturally with roasted lamb, duck, game birds, grilled beef, and earthy dishes such as mushrooms or lentils. It also works beautifully with herb-roasted vegetables and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to allow the wine’s aromatics and texture to open fully.
