Kongsgaard Syrah 2017

Kongsgaard Syrah 2017 is a benchmark Napa Valley Syrah from John and Alex Kongsgaard, widely regarded by critics as one of the very finest examples of the grape in California. Sourced from the Kongsgaards' long-held parcel in the famed Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, it combines power, precision, and remarkable depth in a way that feels both luxurious and deeply distinctive.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine is nearly black in color, hinting at its intensity before the first sip. The nose is layered and compelling, with blackcurrant, blackberry, blood orange, black pepper, smoked meat, liquorice, tar, and dark earth unfolding in waves. The palate mirrors the aromatic profile with concentrated dark fruit and savory smoky meat notes at the forefront, supported by dried Provençal herbs and a long, persistent finish. It is already impressive now, but has the structure and balance to develop beautifully over the next 20 years or more.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from the Kongsgaard parcel in Hudson Vineyard, Carneros, a cool-climate site in Napa Valley known for producing Syrah with both ripeness and freshness. The parcel has been farmed by Kongsgaard for around 20 years, and the quality has continued to improve as the vines have matured and the site has become even better understood, resulting in a wine of exceptional concentration and character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Syrah is a natural match for grilled lamb, slow-braised short ribs, venison, pepper-crusted steak, or richly flavored mushroom dishes. Serve it at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 1-2 hours if opening young to allow the wine's layers of fruit, spice, and savory complexity to fully emerge.
