Kongsgaard Syrah 2022

Kongsgaard Syrah 2022 is a striking expression of cool-climate power and refined intensity, crafted in John Kongsgaard’s unmistakable style of precision, depth, and restraint. Sourced from high-elevation vineyards in Atlas Peak, it brings together volcanic energy, Rhône-inspired structure, and California richness in a wine that speaks softly but leaves a lasting impression.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, dark color that hints at its brooding character. The nose opens with dark berries, black olive, pepper, smoke, leather, graphite, lavender, and a subtle bloody mineral edge, building complexity with every swirl. On the palate, it is cool, firm, and layered, with a juicy core wrapped in fine, gripping tannins and a sleek, sensual texture. The finish is long, spicy, and vibrant, suggesting excellent aging potential for those willing to cellar it and watch its dark complexity evolve over time.

Viininvalmistus
The fruit comes from Kongsgaard’s own high-altitude vineyards in Atlas Peak, where volcanic soils and cool nights help preserve freshness while shaping a tight tannin structure. The grapes are whole-cluster fermented in small open vats with indigenous yeasts, then aged for around 20 months in French barriques, including a modest proportion of new oak, allowing the wine to develop depth without losing its tension or sense of place.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Syrah pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, slow-braised short ribs, venison, duck, or richly seasoned dishes with black pepper, rosemary, and herbs. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young to give the wine time to unfold its layered aromatics and textural detail.
