Kongsgaard The Judge Chardonnay 2013 is one of California’s most acclaimed Chardonnays, a wine that consistently ranks among the very best with critics and collectors alike. Made in tiny quantities from a highly stony vineyard east of Napa, it combines power, finesse, balance, and remarkable complexity in a style that has become a benchmark for serious Chardonnay.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is a rich, layered Chardonnay with a luminous presence and impressive depth. The nose unfolds in waves of citrus, peach, and apricot, followed by ripe pineapple, mango, and a refined touch of vanilla from new French oak. On the palate, it is both generous and precise, offering apple, white pear, citrus, and melon alongside notes of butter, toasted bread, popcorn, and crushed stones that bring a striking mineral edge. The finish is long, textured, and seamless, with the kind of complexity that suggests excellent aging potential over the next several years.

Viininvalmistus
The Judge comes from an extremely rocky vineyard on the Kongsgaard family ranch east of Napa, a site John Kongsgaard planted himself in the 1970s. The vineyard’s stony soils help shape the wine’s intensity and mineral character, while the grapes are handled entirely by hand. After harvest, the wine spends 22 months in brand-new French oak barrels, contributing to its signature richness, structure, and layered complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a Chardonnay for fine dining, pairing beautifully with lobster, lobster thermidor, roast chicken, creamy risotto, seared scallops, or rich dishes with butter-based sauces. Serve slightly chilled at around 10–12°C, and consider decanting briefly if you want the aromatics to open up more fully in its youth.
