Kongsgaard The Judge Chardonnay 2022 is far more than another Napa Valley Chardonnay — it is John Kongsgaard’s most iconic and uncompromising wine, crafted to capture extraordinary concentration without losing precision or grace. Sourced from a tiny, high-altitude parcel and made in an intensely hands-off style, it stands as a benchmark expression of California Chardonnay with a reputation for both power and finesse.

Makuprofiili
The wine shows a brilliant, layered profile with a luminous golden hue that hints at its depth and richness. Aromatically, it unfolds with lemon cream, baked quince, toasted hazelnuts, flint, honey, and a subtle thread of vanilla and beeswax. On the palate, The Judge 2022 is monumental yet never heavy, combining silk-like texture with remarkable intensity, length, and clarity. The acidity is precise and vibrant, carrying a long, mineral finish marked by chalk, salt, and citrus zest. This is a Chardonnay built for the cellar, with the potential to develop beautifully over the next 10–15 years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from a small, elevated parcel in Napa Valley with extremely low yields, farmed without irrigation and with great respect for the vitality of the soil. The fruit is whole-cluster pressed, then spontaneously fermented in new French barriques, followed by full malolactic fermentation and around 22 months of sur lie aging. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration to preserve its pure, concentrated character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with refined dishes such as roast lobster, butter-poached shellfish, creamy poultry preparations, or truffle risotto, where its richness and acidity can both shine. Serve at 10–12°C and consider brief decanting if you want to open up the wine’s aromatic complexity, though it can also be enjoyed directly from the bottle for a more precise expression.
