Krug Clos du Mesnil 1998

Krug Clos du Mesnil 1998 is one of Champagne’s most sought-after Blanc de Blancs, made exclusively from Chardonnay grown in a single 1.84-hectare walled vineyard in Mesnil-sur-Oger. Produced only in exceptional years, it captures the purity, precision, and depth that have made Clos du Mesnil a benchmark for single-vineyard Champagne.

In the glass, it shows a brilliant golden hue with a persistent, fine mousse. The nose is refined and expressive, opening with citrus zest, white flowers, and fresh brioche, followed by subtle layers of almond and mineral notes. The palate is impressively elegant and focused, with flavours of green apple, pear, lemon peel, and a distinct chalky minerality that reflects its terroir. Its vibrant acidity gives the wine remarkable freshness, while the long, tense finish suggests excellent aging potential and continued development over time.

Clos du Mesnil is a tiny, historic Chardonnay vineyard in the heart of Mesnil-sur-Oger, a village renowned for its chalk-rich soils and exceptional terroir for Blanc de Blancs Champagne. Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best served well chilled at around 8–10°C, this Champagne is ideal with refined dishes such as oysters, scallops, lobster, sashimi, or delicate poultry with creamy sauces. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Decanting is not recommended, as its finesse and bubbles are best enjoyed straight from the bottle.
