La Mondotte Saint-Émilion Grand Cru (Premier Grand Cru Classé) 2000 is a highly sought-after Right Bank Bordeaux from one of Saint-Émilion’s most prized micro-estates. Known for its tiny production, exceptional concentration, and polished structure, it represents the modern benchmark style of the appellation. The 2000 vintage adds extra prestige, as it is widely regarded as one of Bordeaux’s great years, prized for its balance, depth, and longevity.

In the glass, La Mondotte 2000 typically shows a deep, mature ruby-garnet color with the beginnings of brick-like evolution at the rim. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with blackcurrant, ripe plum, and dark cherry, followed by cedar, tobacco, sweet spice, and subtle earthy notes from bottle age and oak maturation. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated, with Merlot-driven density balanced by the structure and aromatic lift of Cabernet Franc. Silky tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, persistent finish give the wine both power and finesse. While already offering considerable harmony, it still has the depth to continue aging gracefully for years under proper cellaring.

Viininvalmistus
La Mondotte is located on Saint-Émilion’s limestone and clay terroir, where the Right Bank’s cooler influences and mineral-rich soils help produce wines of precision and intensity. The vineyard is farmed with a focus on low yields and meticulous parcel selection, ensuring high concentration in the fruit. The wine is vinified primarily from Merlot with a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc, then matured for around 18 to 24 months in new French oak barrels to build complexity, texture, and refinement.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game dishes, and truffle-based plates, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C for the best expression of its aromatics and structure. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if opening now, especially if the bottle has been cellared well, to allow the bouquet to unfold fully.

Though the estate is small, it has earned a major reputation for producing intensely expressive, high-quality wines with remarkable consistency. Officially classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé in 2012, La Mondotte has become one of the most coveted and admired estates in the region.
