Kuvaus
La Spinetta Barbera d'Asti Superiore Bionzo 2022 is a выразive and characterful Barbera from the heart of Monferrato, combining ripe fruit, precision, and the depth that comes from old vines. Produced from 60-year-old vineyards in Costigliole d'Asti, it reflects both the strength of Piedmont’s terroir and La Spinetta’s commitment to meticulous, low-intervention viticulture. The wine also carries a memorable artistic touch, with the Dürer rhinoceros woodcut on the label, hinting at its individuality and cult appeal.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, Bionzo typically shows a deep ruby colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is generous and layered, offering dark cherry, blackberry, plum, and floral hints, alongside subtle spice, graphite, and the toasted accents from oak aging.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet fresh, with Barbera’s signature vibrant acidity balancing concentrated fruit and a supple, velvety texture. Expect a structured finish with notes of spice, cocoa, and mineral tension. While approachable in youth, this wine has the structure and concentration to develop well over several years.
Viininvalmistus
Bionzo comes from south-facing vineyards at around 300 meters above sea level in Costigliole d'Asti, in upper Monferrato, where continental conditions bring significant day-night temperature shifts and very low rainfall. The soils are calcareous with sedimentary rock, helping to give the wine both precision and depth. Vines are around 60 years old and farmed with Guyot training without pesticides or herbicides, producing very small but exceptionally high-quality bunches. Harvest takes place from late September to early October, followed by careful grape selection, alcoholic fermentation in rotofermenters, about 18 months of aging in barriques, further refinement in steel tanks, and a final three months in bottle.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Barbera pairs beautifully with rich, savoury dishes such as braised beef, roast lamb, mushroom risotto, game, and aged cheeses. It also works well with hearty pasta dishes and tomato-based recipes thanks to its lively acidity. Serve at 16-18°C and decant for about 1 hour if opening young, to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open up.
