Mahi Marlborough Pinot Noir 2021

Mahi Marlborough Pinot Noir 2021 is a beautifully crafted expression of New Zealand Pinot Noir, bringing together fruit from three distinct Marlborough vineyard sites. Each parcel contributes something different — structure, generous fruit, and added depth — resulting in a wine that feels layered, polished, and far above its price point. With winemaking from Brian Bicknell, this is a smart, terroir-driven Pinot Noir that shows why Marlborough has become one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most exciting regions for the grape.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a bright, vibrant ruby-red colour typical of the variety. The nose opens with lifted aromas of red cherry, plum, nectarine, peach, and redcurrant, giving it a fresh yet ripe profile that immediately feels inviting. On the palate, the wine is elegant and balanced, with the fruit notes from the bouquet carried through in full harmony. Fine acidity gives the wine precision and freshness, while the combination of whole-cluster fermentation and French oak maturation adds subtle complexity, texture, and depth. It already drinks beautifully now, but should also develop nicely over the next few years, gaining more savoury nuance and softness with time.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from three Marlborough vineyards, where New Zealand’s cool climate and varied terroir provide excellent conditions for Pinot Noir. The different sites contribute complementary elements to the final blend, with one adding structure, one generous fruit, and another more pronounced depth. Around 30% of the clusters were fermented whole, including stems, which helps build aromatic complexity and a slightly firmer frame. The wine was then matured for 13 months in French barriques before bottling.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir pairs well with roasted duck, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, pork tenderloin, and dishes with earthy herbs or gentle spice. Serve slightly chilled at around 14-16°C. Decanting is optional, but a short decant can help open up the aromatics if the wine is served young.
