Malartic Lagraviere 2012

Malartic Lagravière 2012 is a polished and highly regarded red from Pessac-Léognan, offering remarkable value for a classified Bordeaux of this level. With its dense, plush style, velvety tannins and impressive balance, it shows the classic depth and refinement that have made the estate one of the region’s standout names. The 2012 vintage is especially notable for its rich, opulent character and long ageing potential.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this wine shows a deep ruby-purple colour, hinting at its concentration and vitality. The nose opens with ripe cassis, blueberry and spicy earth, layered with subtle savoury notes that reflect its Bordeaux pedigree. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with a rich and silky texture that feels generous yet beautifully composed. The tannins are fine and velvety, carrying the fruit through a long, elegant finish. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now, but it also has the structure and balance to develop gracefully over the next two decades or more.

Viininvalmistus
Malartic Lagravière is located in Pessac-Léognan, where the gravelly soils and well-drained terroir help produce wines with freshness, depth and structure. The estate is managed with a strong focus on sustainable viticulture, and the vineyards average around 25 years of age across the property’s 53 hectares. The red wines are vinified partly in new oak barrels, then matured for around 12 months in 50-70% new French oak, giving the wine both polish and complexity without overwhelming its fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast or mushroom-based dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C for the best expression of its aromatics and texture. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended, especially if drinking it young, to allow the wine to open fully.

Château Malartic-Lagravière has a long history in Bordeaux, but its modern rise has been driven by the Bonnie family, who took over in 1997 and invested heavily in both the cellar and the vineyards. Their work modernising the estate and introducing more sustainable practices has helped elevate the quality of both the white and red wines to a very high level. Today, Malartic-Lagravière is widely respected as one of the more consistently impressive and fairly priced classified growths in Pessac-Léognan.
