Marchesi di Gr e9sy Barbaresco Gaiun Martinenga 2018 is a finely crafted single-parcel Barbaresco from one of the most respected estates in Piemonte. Sourced from the Gaiun plot on the western side of the Martinenga vineyard, it offers a distinct expression of Nebbiolo with elegance, precision, and depth. In a great vintage like 2018, this is a wine that balances classic Barbaresco character with the unmistakable pedigree of Marchesi di Gr e9sy.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a luminous garnet-red color with a delicate orange rim, signaling both freshness and classic Nebbiolo structure. The nose is layered and inviting, unfolding with notes of plum, cherry, sweet tobacco, licorice, black pepper, chocolate, and balsamic nuances. On the palate, the wine is beautifully harmonious, with pure fruit, refined depth, and silk-smooth tannins that give shape without ever feeling austere. There is a sense of balance and restraint here that makes the wine immediately compelling, yet it clearly has the structure to age gracefully for years, gaining more complexity and nuance with bottle maturation.

Viininvalmistus
The Nebbiolo grapes for Gaiun come from a single parcel on the western side of the Martinenga cru, one of the most prized sites in Barbaresco. Martinenga benefits from south-facing exposure, blue marl soils, and elevations between 220 and 280 meters, giving the vines excellent conditions for full ripeness while preserving finesse. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented twice, and then matured for 28 months in small French oak barrels before spending additional time in bottle prior to release.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Barbaresco is an excellent match for refined Piedmontese cuisine, roasted game birds, mushroom risotto, braised veal, truffle dishes, and aged cheeses. Serve it at around 16-18 b0C, and consider decanting for 1-2 hours if drinking it young to allow the aromatics and tannins to open fully.

Marchesi di Gr e9sy has been owned by the di Gr e9sy family since 1797 and is deeply rooted in the Langhe and Monferrato hills of Piemonte. The estate began bottling its own wines in the early 1970s under Alberto di Gr e9sy, with a clear focus on expressing terroir and traditional grape varieties through modern yet respectful winemaking. Today, the family continues to vinify only grapes grown on its own 111 hectares across Martinenga, Monte Aribaldo, La Serra, and Monte Colombo, and Martinenga remains one of the region ads most celebrated monopole vineyards for Barbaresco.
