Masseto 2006

Masseto 2006 is one of the estate’s most legendary vintages, a benchmark Tuscan Merlot that combines monumental power with a cool, almost classical elegance. Produced on the celebrated Masseto hill in Bolgheri, it reflects a year of ideal growing conditions and stands as a historic reference point for what Merlot can achieve in Tuscany.

In the glass, Masseto 2006 shows a deep, dense ruby color with the first hints of garnet at the rim. The nose is intense and layered, unfolding with black cherry, blackberry, plum, dried flowers, graphite, licorice, and dark chocolate, followed by Mediterranean herbs, truffle, roasted coffee, and a subtle touch of sweet tobacco as it opens. On the palate, the wine is monumental yet never heavy, delivering remarkable concentration supported by vibrant acidity and seamlessly integrated tannins. Rich dark fruit, warm spice, espresso, mineral tension, and a delicate core of sweetness lead into a long, harmonious finish. Fully mature today, it still has significant aging potential and promises many more years of development.

Viininvalmistus
The 2006 growing season in Bolgheri was marked by a rainy winter that replenished water reserves, followed by a warm but balanced spring and a dry summer that produced small, concentrated berries with impressive aromatic intensity. Harvest was carried out selectively in several passes from 6 to 23 September, ensuring only perfectly ripe and healthy grapes were picked. In the cellar, the wine was vinified with Masseto’s trademark precision through parcel-based fermentation, spontaneous yeasts, and controlled extraction, then aged for 24 months in new barriques and a further year in bottle before release.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine to serve with equally refined, richly flavored dishes such as roasted beef, braised lamb, venison, or truffle-infused pasta and risotto. It also pairs beautifully with mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least one to two hours to allow the bouquet and structure to fully раскрываться.
