Masseto 2011

Masseto 2011 is a striking expression of Merlot from one of Tuscany’s most celebrated sites, born from a warm, early-ripening vintage in Bolgheri. With its extraordinary concentration, silky texture, and unmistakable sense of place, it reflects both the power of the vintage and the finesse that has made Masseto a benchmark wine in Italy.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Masseto 2011 is deeply colored, almost opaque, hinting at the wine’s density and intensity. The nose opens with ripe wild red berries and dark fruit, layered with dark chocolate, toasted oak spice, and a subtle Mediterranean herbal note that adds lift and complexity. The palate is rich and expansive, with a core of dark fruit wrapped in polished, seamless tannins and supported by fresh, precise acidity. Despite its opulence, the wine remains balanced and focused, finishing long, spicy, and persistent. While impressive now for its depth and harmony, it also has the structure and concentration to age gracefully for many years.

Viininvalmistus
Masseto 2011 comes from the blue clay soils of the Masseto vineyard in Bolgheri, where the warm and unusually dry season led to one of the fastest ripening cycles ever recorded on the site. Grapes were hand-harvested between 25 August and 1 September from five parcels and vinified separately to preserve the vineyard’s nuances. The wine was then matured for 24 months in 100% new French barriques, followed by 12 months of bottle aging before release.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that pairs beautifully with richly flavored dishes such as grilled or roasted beef, venison, braised short ribs, truffle pasta, and mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if opening now to help the wine fully express its aromatic complexity and layered texture.
