Masseto 2018

Masseto 2018 is a beautifully poised expression of one of Tuscany’s most iconic Merlots, showing more elegance and precision than sheer power. In a vintage shaped by a cool, measured growing season and a careful late harvest, it captures the purity, depth, and remarkable balance that have made Masseto one of Italy’s most celebrated red wines.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Masseto 2018 shows a deep ruby color that hints at its concentration. The nose is refined and layered, with aromas of ripe black cherry, plum, and blackberry, lifted by violet, dark chocolate, mocha, graphite, and a subtle Mediterranean spice. On the palate, it is silky and beautifully structured, with fine, mature tannins and a vibrant line of freshness that keeps the wine focused. Dark fruit is woven together with notes of truffle, toasted oak, mineral accents, and a touch of balsamic depth. The finish is long, clean, and harmonious, and the 2018 vintage already feels approachable while offering outstanding aging potential over many years.

Viininvalmistus
Masseto 2018 comes from Tuscany, where the season began with ample winter rain, a cool start to spring, and a mild summer punctuated by only brief heat spikes. Cool nights later in the season preserved aromatic intensity and natural acidity, while the later harvest allowed the Merlot to reach full phenolic ripeness with excellent color and structure. The wine was vinified parcel by parcel in concrete tanks with spontaneous fermentation, followed by malolactic fermentation in new barriques. It was aged separately for the first 12 months, then blended and matured for another year in barriques before a final period of bottle ageing.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine for rich, flavorful dishes such as roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, braised short ribs, game birds, or truffle-based pasta and risotto. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C and consider decanting for about 1-2 hours if drinking now, as this will help the wine open and show its full aromatic range.
